Assalamu Alaykum. We have now started collecting donations for Ramadan 2025. This year, we intent to hold Iftars (Monday-Friday), and we expect to host around 300 students every evening. One Iftar is expected to cost £1,500 (or £5 per person). This gives us a target of £33,000 to raise. We will be raising these funds in different methods, for example through bake sales and other events, Insha'Allah.
CONTRIBUTE TO A BLESSED RAMADAN EFFORT
The University of Leicester Islamic Society's iftar gatherings have become a cornerstone of Ramadan for our Muslim students. This year, we're expanding to welcome over 300 fasting students each weekday during March. This expansion aims to accommodate the growing demand and ensure more students can find comfort and community during Ramadan, especially those far from home and managing academic pressures.
However, this growth comes at a time when the university and SU have withdrawn the usual funding for our project, placing the sustainability of our iftar initiative in the hands of our generous community. With the overall cost for the month projected at £33,000, the need for your generous donations is more pressing than ever.
MULTIPLY YOUR REWARDS THIS RAMADAN
Sponsor a meal: Just £5 can provide one student their iftar meal. £100 can feed 20 students. Your contribution is a valuable sadaqah that will, Insha'Allah, bring immense rewards in this life and the hereafter.
Collective effort: Our goal of £33,000 might sound a lot, but each donation, big or small, will help us get there. Tell people about what we're doing and spread the word. Every bit of effort counts and brings its own rewards.
Volunteer: Got some time? We'd love to have our fellow students join us in preparing and sharing meals, setting up the prayers, tarawih and more on campus. Keep an eye out on our Instagram @ulisoc for more information.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever feeds the person who is breaking his fast, he will have his reward (for his fasting) without decreasing anything from the reward of the fasting person.”
